I was thinking about cleansing today and shared a little blog post about why to do a 30-day renewing cleanse with y'all.  And then I got a couple of questions about detoxing and I realized I'd kind of glossed over the hardest part of doing a cleanse.  doTERRA has an easy protocol to follow that's really just a matter of taking some extra supplements throughout your day.  Not so difficult.

Oh man, I hate to say it ...
No, the hard part of a cleanse is cutting way back (eliminating, if possible) sugar and refined carbs (which of course convert to sugar). Ooooh, so hard because sugar is highly addictive.

But here's the deal:  If you're going to do a cleanse, you're wasting your time if you're still living on sugar and other simple carbs. Truth, right there. Sugar is highly inflammatory and addictive but there are oils -- like grapefruit -- which you can add to water to help cut back on cravings.

Make a plan.
Stick to it.
Makes sure it includes chocolate ...

My strategy is two-fold: 1 - have an arsenal of zero calorie drinks and 2 - chocolate (yes, chocolate!).
  1. Drinks: Oolong tea with lemon essential oil. Black tea with bergamot. Peppermint and Lemon essential oil tea. All sweetened with stevia (not sugar of course, but also *not* with artificial chemical sweeteners). Also -- Water flavored with various citrus oils (lime, bergamot, lemon, grapefruit). A personal favorite is Lemon & Peppermint in iced water.  Just 1 - 2 drops of each in a tall glass - refreshing, tastes great and very effective if you're dealing with any seasonal or digestive issues!  Bottom-line: Having things to switch up helps.
  2. Skinny chocolate. If I have this on hand I can beat back those chocolate cravings with this zero sugar recipe!

... and peanut butter!

And then I started thinking:  How do I ooomph up my already wonderful Skinny Chocolate... and I came up with Coconut-Peanut-Butter Skinny Chocolate!

Still sugar free and waaaay better than it has a right to be, this is now my fav for a rich, indulgent chocolate fix. In Trim Healthy Mama-land this recipe is an "S" (see original Skinny Chocolate post for a brief explanation about THM). With the peanut flour you have a little bit of protein -- a bonus! And I'm telling you, this stuff is totally completely awesomely delicious.

No fancy pictures here -- I wanted to get this out to y'all FAST!  See the original Skinny Chocolate post for pictures if you must!

You start with the Skinny Chocolate recipe (leave out the optional Peppermint) -- and you add:
  • 1/4 cup peanut flour,
  • 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter and
  • a pinch more salt.
Mix mix mix!  Use a mixer or immersion blender and mix everything together.  And then mix it a little more.

Line mini-muffin pans with paper liners and add some dried wide-sliced unsweetened coconut flakes (shredded is fine, but these larger flakes are a better choice in my opinion) to each little cup.  Add as much or as little as you want.

Then pour well-mixed chocolate mixture over the coconut in each cup.

Freeze and enjoy!!

Yum.
