multi-purpose beauty balm

I ADORE this stuff.

Let me tell you why:  The main way I use this is for my nightly routine:  first I apply my frankincense & myrrh face cream, then my eye cream and finally this beauty balm on top -- at night I apply all three all over my face, neck and back of hands.  So rich and luxurious.

Here's just a few more uses of this balm:
  • Treatment/mask – layer on your face and cover with a hot, dampened washcloth while you rest in a luxurious bath (!) and then wipe away with a reheated washcloth.
  • Cuticle cream/hand lotion
  • Apply over sunscreen for an extra layer of protection against wind and weather when boating, skiing or other outdoor sports
  • After sun exposure cream
  • Stretch mark prevention during pregnancy
  • For dry  hair – apply a pea-sized amount and work through your hair before bed – leave in overnight and wash your hair in the morning
  • To soothe itchy,  irritated skin
  • Super healing and protective -- even can be used as a diaper cream

This recipe, like the others I've shared, can be customized.  Add more or less of the carrier oils.  Add more or less or even different essential oils. This works for me, but you can totally change it up. Just don't leave out the Beeswax, since that's what pulls it all together.

Please read the first entry in this series for general tips about making your own skin care.

Multi-purpose Beauty Balm
  • 2 Tbsp Argan oil
  • 2 Tbsp Rose hip seed oil
  • 2 Tbsp Shea nut butter
  • 1 tsp Beeswax
Heat these ingredients in a double boiler until melted.  Remove from heat then add:
  • 3 drops Cypress essential oil
  • 3 drops Frankincense essential oil
  • 3 drops Geranium essential oil
  • 3 drops Carrot seed oil
  • 3 drops Lavender
  • ½ tsp Vodka (optional – preservative)
Mix together with a whisk or mixer.  Pour into jar.  Keeps up to 3 months.
Apply to skin w circular movements.

And please, please remember --
One of the most vital things you must know about essential oils is not all essential oils are created equally. Many - if not most - brands should not be ingested as they are not tested for purity.  In fact, most of them are worthless to your health and often synthetic.
