Some folks have the impression that doTERRA's top-tier premium essential oils are a little pricey -- and a small minority are. I'm going to list some totally appropriate -- and $$$ saving -- substitutions below.
But first, consider this:
Essential oils -- even the more expensive ones -- are a great value, especially if you have a good coach (like me!) to train you in their effective and safe use.
Let's crunch some numbers ...
I just did some quick calculations, looking at doTERRA's current wholesale price list for our single oils and blends. You really don't want to pay retail as those prices are 25% more and a wholesale membership has so many benefits besides saving you a lot of money!
Here's what I found:
Let's break it down a little more:
Given the chance, your doTERRA essential oils will change how you approach self-care -- giving you choice, power and knowledge to transform your health.
But what about those more expensive oils? Do you have to buy those? Or are there good substitutes for them?
---> Here's a great idea and points up the value of wholesale membership and ordering through Loyalty Rewards: you can get these expensive oils for FREE! Save up your LRP points (shopping and shipping rewards) and then use them to get any of these oils for FREE! Can't beat free, right? But in the meantime , I'm giving you some great substitutes, below.
Let's look at what many call the "poor man's oils" -- fabulous, powerful oils that are great substitutes for the pricey oils.
Let me note this right up front: The expensive oils are the ones most subject to misrepresentation, dilution and just plain out-right being faked on the market. Be careful! Only buy doTERRA, as our oils are third-party tested and proven to be pure and therapeutically useful.
Melissa ($135 for 5ml)
Melissa is wildly popular because of it's positive effect on mood to calm feelings of tension and nervousness. Melissa also supports a healthy immune system.
Frankincense ($69.75 for 15ml)
Renowned as one of the most prized and precious essential oils, it’s soothing and beautifying properties are used to rejuvenate skin and help reduce the appearance of imperfections. As the king of oils, Frankincense is known to support healthy cellular function. When inhaled or diffused, Frankincense promotes feelings of peace, relaxation, satisfaction, and overall wellness. "When in doubt, use Frankincense!" is a by-word in oily circles and it really is a must-have.
doTERRA's pure Rose oil is so expensive, it is not available for purchase -- it is only available as a limited special promotion through doTERRA and it is included in some of our blends Rose oil reduces the appearance of skin imperfections, is emotionally uplifting and promotes feelings of relaxation. Great substitutes are:
Helichrysum ($75 for 5ml)
One of the lesser known oils, but one that I have on hand for "emergencies". Helichrysum is best known for its restorative properties to the skin. Also referred to as the Everlasting or Immortal Flower, Helichrysum is used in anti-aging products for its rejuvenating benefits to the skin. Supportive to the respiratory and digestive system. Soothing to skin irritations. The compounds in this oil are known anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-allergenic properties. Substitute with:
Sandalwood ($61.75 for 15 ml)
Sandalwood is very beneficial to the skin; it can help reduce the appearance of skin imperfections and it promotes a healthy, smooth complexion. Sandalwood has a sweet, woody aroma that can enhance mood and is frequently used in meditation for its grounding effects.
Myrrh ($52 for 15ml)
Myrrh has been used throughout history as a perfume, incense, and health aid. Myrrh has powerful cleansing properties, especially for the mouth and throat. It is protective of the immune and respiratory systems. It is also soothing to the skin—promoting a smooth, youthful-looking complexion—and promotes emotional balance and well-being. The classic substitutes for Myrrh are Frankincense and Sandalwood. These money-saving substitutes are good:
If you want to splurge or save up your LRP Reward points for a terrific oil, after Frankincense, my next favorite splurge-worthy oil is our blend called IMMORTELLE ($69.50 for a 10 ml rollerball bottle). Why? Look at its ingredient list -- many of these pricey oils are right here in ONE bottle!
Immortelle is a proprietary blend of powerfully renewing, rare essential oils. The emotional and therapeutic effects of this combination is so powerful. Applied to your face and neck, it beautifies skin of course, but also supports and soothes your body in a myriad of ways.
I use this as my facial serum, but guess what? This blend supports my immune and respiratory systems plus my thyroid! Love it.
