#31 drops of oil – October 4
We've covering the three ways to use essential oils … yesterday we discussed aromatically. Today is T for Topical!
TOPICAL -- doTERRA essential oils are easily absorbed by the skin and many can be safely applied topically when used in conjunction with a carrier oil, such as Fractionated Coconut Oil. The soles of the feet, wrists and back of neck are favorite places to apply essential oils.
Diluting essential oils is always a good idea. It helps spread the oils over more surface area - so more contact, more absorption - and helps delay "flash off". These are volatile aromatics, remember. Many of us use Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) because it is stable and has a neutral scent. Some oils are very mild and can technically be used "neat" with no diluting at all, but I and most experts recommend diluting even those.
Here’s a really easy way to decode the BEST way to dilute your oils for topical use for maximal effectiveness. Each of our oils has a symbol: N - Neat, S - Sensitive and D – Dilute.
As you learn and grow with your oil usage you can always dilute more or less. This is the ratio recommended by oil experts for the best effect. You can ALWAYS adjust to fit your needs and what YOU are comfortable with and what works for you. You can make up rollerballs and dilute to whatever strength you want - based on your own experience. Or you can simply add oils to the palm of your hand, mix with FCO (Fractionated Coconut Oil) and apply.
Here is a good starting point for our top ten oils:
"N" -- mild oils that can be used neat but a 1:1 dilution ratio is recommended: Lavender, Lemon, Melaleuca, Frankincense, DigestZen
"S" -- "sensitive" - dilute 1:2: Peppermint, Deep Blue Soothing Blend, Breathe Respiratory Blend , OnGuard Protective Blend
"D" -- always dilute at least 1:3: Oregano
These ratios are okay even for infants and children. For use on children's feet (mostly where you'd use it topically, or even their tummies) you'd just use less. Don't roll and roll and roll their feet. Just a single swipe should be the right amount. You can always go back and swipe again.

Tip #4: Apply essential oils to the soles of your feet. This is a very safe and surprisingly effective place to apply essential oils. The chart below helps you decide where to use essential oils on baby’s (and grown up) feet!

And please, please remember -- One of the most vital things you must know about essential oils is not all essential oils are created equally. Many - if not most - brands should not be ingested as they are not tested for purity. In fact, most of them are worthless to your health and often synthetic.
