- Sniff bottle
- Place 1 - 3 drops in palm of hand and cup hands over nose and inhale deeply
- Dilute and dab under and around nose
- Place 4 - 8 drops in ultrasonic diffuser with water
T = Topical -- Ways to use:
- I recommend diluting ALL oils, even the mild oils. Diluting 1:3 (one drop essential oil to three drops Fractionated Coconut Oil) for healthy adults is fine. That is a good starting point for ALL oils. You can make up rollerballs and dilute to whatever strength you want - based on your own experience. Or you can simply add oils to the palm of your hand, mix with FCO and apply.
- Soles of the feet are very safe places to apply -- the pores are large, skin is less reactive and the oils are quickly absorbed. Also if you don't enjoy the scent of a particular oil -- apply to feet!
- The back of neck, behind ears and wrists are good places too, especially if you also want to enjoy the aroma of your oil
- Targeted application may be needed: places that are tense or sore; or where skin is irritated -- temples, forehead, shoulders, knees, blemishes, etc.
- N = Neat -- can be used "neat" -- dilution is not required, but I usually dilute even these (personal choice) at 1:1 or more
- S = Sensitive (some people with sensitive skin - including elderly and infants/children) - dilution is recommended at 1:2 to 1:10
- D = Dilute -- always dilute oils marked with a "D" as they are "hot" oils -- at least 1:3 (children -- dilute at 1:10 to 1:20)
I - Internal -- Ways to use
- Check the bottle -- first -- to make sure there is a "Supplement Facts" label on the bottle. If there is, that oil has been deemed safe to consume internally.
- Many oils, especially the citrus oils, are very pleasant-tasting and are very beneficial to add to water. For each 8 ounces of water, add 1 - 3 drops of essential oil. Always use glass or metal containers with essential oils, never plastic.
- Many oils also taste great added to other beverages, such as hot or iced tea.
- Of course you can cook with many essential oils! Recipes can be found on Pinterest, etc. I share recipes on my Facebook page and have a few in my blog.
- For targeted applications -- immune support, for example -- 2 - 4 drops of essential oil can be added to an empty Veggie Cap. I usually add some DigestZen (2 - 4 drops) and fill the rest of the way up with Olive Oil. Take with plenty of water and if you're taking a "hot" oil, I recommend eating something to make sure it goes all the way down.
